Alamont. Get your sofa out on the street.
"A series of stone cushions designed to be located in parks and urban spaces. This project was developed around the contrast between the comfortable apperance suggested by the form and the idea of hardness conveyed by stone; Alamont plays with the opposites in these concepts, the softness of the home and the hardness of the urban landscape. This project received a mention of merit for the intelligent irony involved in its conceptual elaboration."
Milan Design Week
This project was developed for the International Competition Cumulus in colaboration with Milán IED, (European Desgin Institute), The Piero Portaluppi Fundation and the Deparment of Trade and Commerce Trento for the The PPF permanent exhibition in Milán.and was based on the use of trentine stone and its possibilities. The piece recived a Mention of Merit at Milán Design Week.
The transformation of Trentino stone into a decontextualised object provides a new double identity. On the one hand, it offers a more modern vision of the use of the famous Trento stone and marble, and on the other, it gives tradition to a reinvented urban object, using a sustainable and environmentally friendly material.
During the development stage of a project, I always look for purity and simplicity of the concept. In this instance we wanted to respect the idea of cushions and left the user feel the expierence of siting down in a public bench trought the most primary relx element as a coushin is. The user can make a stop in the way and disconnect from urban enviorment to take the most of that relaxing moment as he/she takes it couch out to the Street.
Alamont has the posibility to adapt to the enviorment. It can be created a Little mountain of coushin to a big one, depending of the ubication. Only by connecting more coushing you can créate different atmospheres. Depending as you place the pillows the mountain shapes itself.
